Ghana Discontinue New Mobile Lines Activation MTN
The Ghanaian National Communications Authority, NCA, has
directed MTN, one of the leading mobile phone operators in
Africa to stop the activation of new access lines until its
network is properly expanded to take additional capacity.
It was also stopped from issuing more lines.
Ms Mawuena Dumor, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana,
said the company had complied with the directive and had also
made a decision to stop further sales of starter packs.
According to her, the company is also facing challenges in
acquiring land to build cell sites.
The Nigerian Experience
The services of the South African company in Nigeria has equally
suffered many set backs due to poor services. Consequently, the
Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, early this year ordered
the stoppage of MTN expansion promotions.
Glomobile, Celtel and the Mtel mobile telecommunications
companies were also sanctioned for inefficiency.
The Ghanaian Communications regulatory authority has given both
the MTN and One Touch mobile company a November 8 deadline to
improve their networks and interconnectivity or risk further
sanctions.
