G20: World Bank Pleads
For Developing Countries
The
World Bank has appealed to leaders of the Group of
20 developed and developing nations meeting in
Pittsburgh next week, not to leave the poor
countries behind as they focus on ways to keep the
global economic recovery afloat .
The President of the Bank, Robert Zoellick said as
the world enters a new danger zone, poor countries
should not be left behind because they have little
ability and few resources to help themselves.
A new World Bank report shows that more than forty
poor countries are still mired in economic downturn
and struggling to finance key needs such as health
and education, despite signs of recovery in some
industrialized and emerging economies.
