tremendous role of the Civil Servants to his administration’s
success story.
The Governor also approved the review of allowances to Judicial
Service workers.
Governor Fashola enjoined Public Servants to take advantage of
insurance schemes by the government.
Lagos State has over one hundred thousand employees and pays
over N3.221 billion monthly wages.
More Fire Stations
In a related development, the Lagos State House of Assembly has
directed the Ministry of Home Affairs and Culture to build more
fire stations across the state to curtail fire disasters.
This resolution came after members had debated the fire disaster
that razed two buildings at Ijora in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council
Developing Area of Lagos, south west Nigeria last week.
It was reported that a life was lost and property worth millions
of naira were destroyed in the inferno. The Assembly came to the
conclusion when it was realized that petrol put inside one of
the burnt houses triggered the fire incident.
The lawmakers while commenting on Matters of Urgent Public
Importance, called for more efficient and responsive fire
service, also urged the Ministry of Special Duties to promptly
provide relief materials for victims of the fire incident.
Members who spoke on the issue blamed the inferno on the use of
generators by the majority of Lagosians due to unsteady supply
of electricity to prospective consumers.
According to them, lack of electricity has made many homes
resorted to the use of electricity generating sets. They also
urged the Acting President to prune down the 7-point Agenda to
just one- supply of uninterrupted power supply- in order to
accelerate development in the country.
The House equally appealed to the Federal Government to
genuinely work towards the restoration of steady supply of
electricity and sufficient provision of petroleum products in
the country to forestall hoarding.
