Nigeria Welcomes
Investment From Finland
Finnish
investors have been asked to establish factories and plants in
Nigeria to boost technology and generate employment.
When he received representatives of the Finnish government and a
business delegation, led by the country's Minister of Foreign
Trade and Development, Mr. Paavo Vayrynen, in Abuja on Tuesday,
Nigeria’s Acting President Goodluck Jonathan said the Finnish
company, Nokia, which has high patronage in Nigeria, should
consider setting up its phone plants in Nigeria, to generate
employment and enhance home-grown technology.
Recalling a visit of government officials and members of the
Nigerian business community to Finland in May last year, the
acting president expressed the government's determination to
tackle the existing infrastructure challenges.
He said the follow-up visit by the Finnish government and
business delegation indicated Finland's commitment to an
improvement in trade relations with Nigeria.
Dr. Jonathan also urged foreign investors to obtain crucial
business information from the Nigerian Investment Promotion
Council, a body saddled with the task of guiding investors.
Mr. Vayrynen said Finland was interested in boosting trade and
economic relations with Nigeria.
He cited Finland's areas of interest to include
telecommunications, energy, mining and road construction.
Vayrynen said his country was ready to assist Nigeria with
technological expertise toward attaining its Vision 20:2020
goal.
