Nigeria collaborate With ADB On Food
Security
The
National Programme for Food Security in Nigeria says it is
collaborating with the African Development Bank ADB to encourage
massive food production and preservation in the country.
The Process
The programme manager of the agency in Cross River State, Mr.
Basey Otu Basey said the agency was assisting the rural farmers
to obtain loans from the bank to encourage them in mechanized
farming for abundant food production.
According to the manager, many farmers have already benefited
from the programme through cooperative loans geared towards
empowering the peasant farmers.
Strategy
He noted that the agency had embarked on crops research for the
protection and preservation of food crops and capacity building
of farmers for optimal result.
Stating the determination of the government to improve food
production and reduce importation of food, Basey said
agricultural school gardens have been introduced in post primary
schools to encourage youths to engage in farming.
