Procures 650 Tons Of Fertiliser For Sale To Farmers
The
Nigerian Government has procured 650 metric tons of fertiliser
for sale to farmers in the current planting season.
Dr. Samuel Negedu, special assistant to the minister of
Agriculture and Water Resources, made this known in Lokoja ,Kogi
State, Northern Nigeria, during the 20th Refills Workshop for
Research Extension Farmers for middle belt zone.
Negedu, who was the guest speaker, spoke on the 7-point agenda
of the Federal Government, which includes the empowerment of
farmers for increased food production.
Meanwhile, Kogi State Governor, Ibrahim Idris, stated that his
administration placed great priority on agriculture and
demonstrated this with the provision of 40,000 metric tons of
fertiliser at subsidised rates to farmers in the state.
He disclosed that his administration had so far procured and
distributed 227 tractors and 1,250 tricycles to ease land
preparation and transportation of farm produce in the state.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Director, National Cereals
Research Institute, NCRI, Dr. A. A. Ochigbo, stated that the
development of high productivity technologies was now in full
stream in all research institutes across the country.
