FAO Launches Bio Security Projects In Nigeria
The
Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO, have
launched two bio security projects in Abuja for
the prevention of trans-boundary animal diseases
in Nigeria.
The project that were launched include
development and testing of cost effective and
feasible bio security measures as well as
capacity building for national prevention and
preparedness for avian and human influenza
pandemic beyond emergency.
At the ceremony the FAO representative in Rome,
Saben Michelle said the United Nations outfit
would continue to champion the control of animal
diseases in all affected countries.
In an address, the Chief Veterinary officer,
federal department of Livestock Dr Junaid said
measures are in place to promote and sustain the
control of animal diseases in country.
The pilot projects will be in Anambra, Ondo and
Katsina states
The Director of veterinary services in Ondo
state, Dr. Francis Ogunji, who spoke on behalf
of representatives from Anambra state and
Katsina states where the projects will be sited,
promised to work towards its successful
implementation.
The duration for the implementation of the two
projects in the three states is one year
Bio Security is one of the key tools for the
control of animal disease especially avian
influenza.
