Businessman Faces Trial In Rwanda On Genocide
The
International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda has
begun proceedings against a businessman Gaspard
Kanyarukiga.
He was accused of genocide after he allegedly
ordered bulldozers to knock down a church where
two thousand Tutsis had taken shelter.
The Tutsis were then crushed and slaughtered by
Hutus.
However, judges may take months or even years to
decide what happened at Nyange Church.
More than half a million members of the Tutsi
ethnic minority and moderates from the Hutu
majority were slaughtered during the one hundred
-day Rwandan genocide in 1994.
