Eritrea Rejects UN
Accusation On Somalia
Rebecca Mu’azu, Abuja
Eritrean
authorities have rejected the accusation that it has been
financing and meddling in the politics of Somalia, which
resulted in imposition of sanctions by the Security Council in
December, 2009.
The Eritrean Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Ali Omaro, told
newsmen in Abuja, that his country did not have the financial
capability to fund armed groups in Somalia.
Ambassador Omaro said Eritrea had no border junction with
Somalia; hence it had no links with the country.
He decried the accusation by the UN that it refused to solve its
border dispute with Djibouti, saying Eritrea had not occupied
any part of the country and did not have any claim over it.
The envoy said the whole issue was fabricated by the US to cover
what he called, unlawful support for Ethiopia, which he claimed
still occupied Eritrean sovereign territory.
