Beefs Up Security In Guinea

ECOWAS
leaders have taken measures to improve the security
in Guinea Bissau, where recent developments have
been posing threat to the region.
The measures are aimed at creating an atmosphere
conducive for the conduct of Sunday’s Presidential
election and to ensure durable peace and security in
the country.
This was part of the resolutions of the West African
leaders in Abuja, Nigeria at its 36th summit.
The ECOWAS heads of state urged Guinea’s National
Council for Democracy and Development, CNDD, to
respect its promise to restore constitutional order
this year.
President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Mohammed Ibn
Chambers read the communiqué.
ECOWAS Integration
The Spanish government has pledged nearly three
hundred Million Euros to strengthen regional
integration in West Africa.
The pledge was made at the ECOWAS Summit attended by
heads of state and governments of the region and
Spanish Prime Minister, Joe Luis Rodriguez in Abuja.
The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mohammed Ibn
Chambas said areas of focus include infrastructural
development, renewable energy, war against malaria
and illicit trafficking in persons.
