Super Eagles Get Boost Towards FIFA 2010 World
Cup Finals.

In
a bid to secure qualification for the 2010 FIFA
world cup finals in South Africa, a fund raising
dinner was held in Abuja where over one billion
naira was realised in support of the Super
Eagles.
The
Nigerian government donated the highest amount
at the ceremony where it gave Three hundred
Million Naira (N300, 000,000.00).
Vice
President Good-Luck Jonathan who represented
President Umaru Yar’adua at the occassion
assured that the money realized would be
judiciously utilized to meet the needs of the
Super Eagles before and during the world cup
tournament in South Africa.
The
Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the
Governors’ Forum also donated N180 million. He
pledged that the amount would be paid after
Nigeria’s qualification for the world cup
finals.
The
Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the
FIFA world cup qualification, Governor Rotimi
Ameachi of Rivers State donated N150 million.
Other
donors included Banks, Construction Companies
and private sector operators in support of the
super eagles participation at the FIFA world cup
tournament in South Africa next year.
The Super
Eagles are placed second behind the Carthage
Eagles of Tunisia in group two of the African
qualifiers with 4 points to Tunisia's 7.
The Super
Eagles will on September 6, host the Tunisians
in Abuja in make or mar game.
Already,
the hanler of the Super Eagles Shuaibu Amodu has
named a 23 man strong team to face the Eagles of
Tunisia on September 6.
Team
Captain Nwankwo Kanu has assured Nigerians that,
the Eagles will be in South Africa come 2010.
