Deportees From Libya Seek Government Assistance
Hundreds
of Nigerians living in Libya, who were deported back home for
various offences, are seeking government’s assistance for their
re-settlement and rehabilitation.
The
deportees tabled
their requests before the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
The chairman of
the House of Representatives’ committee on diaspora, Mrs. Abike
Erewa has assured them that the government would be willing to
support them.
She said that
the Edo state government has agreed to take responsibility for
the welfare and rehabilitation of indigenes of the state.
Leader of the
deportees, Mr. Vitalis Onuoma, commended the committee for its
efforts at securing their release from prison.
Mr. Onuoma said
that the intervention of the committee on Diaspora facilitated
the repatriation of the over 1,000 Nigerians on death row
and life imprisonment in Libyan jails.
