Minister Of Niger Delta Appeals to Monacks On
Amnesty Deal
The
Minister of the Niger Delta, Chief Ufot
Ekaette, has appealed to traditional rulers in
the Niger-Delta region to advice militants to
accept the amnesty offered by the Nigerian
Government.
Ekaette was speaking when he met with the
Executive Members of Traditional Rulers of Oil
Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria in Port
Harcourt, Rivers State, Southern Nigeria.
Assurances
He told the traditional rulers that the
militants should avail themselves of the
opportunity, presented by the Federal Government
to be reintegrated into normal life.
The Minister made it clear that contrary to
insinuations that the offer was a ploy by the
government to arrest and prosecute the
militants, the government has no other interest
than to end the crisis to pave way for the
development of the area.
Ekaette disclosed that the ministry had already
organised a job fair meant to link the youths
with potential employers and they could be
employed at the end of their training.
