Customs Service
Automates Goods Monitoring
The
Nigeria Customs Service has introduced an automated machine for
effective monitoring of goods at the seaports.
The
Controller-General, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, during a visit to the
Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of the service in
Ikeja Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, said that the machine
would make it easier to monitor shipment of goods.
’’This is part of
the measures put in place to ensure that goods are cleared from the
ports in less than 48 hours,’’
he said.
Dikko said the
automated system would also facilitate recording of imported goods
for effective monitoring and enable the service to detect fraudulent
practices faster.
’’The new
monitoring system will also assist the service in its revenue
generation drive,’’
he added.
The Controller of
the Airport command, Mr Michael Adewole, gave the assurance that the
command would do its best to surpass its revenue target for Year
2010.
He also pledged the
commitment of officers and men of the command to their duties.
