2010 International
Convention Holds In Canada
No
fewer than 20,000 delegates are attending the 2010 International
Convention organised by the Prospectors and Developers
Association of Canada (PDAC) in Toronto, Canada.
The gathering from 120 countries is the largest so far recorded
by the PDAC, with 800 students from across the world attending
for the first time.
The convention, with the theme Trade Show and Investors
Exchange, holds annually and is a volunteer-led forum which
represents the interests of mineral explorers in Canada and
around the world.
The President of PDAC, Mr Jon Baird, said the solid minerals
sector had been the worst hit by the current global recession
following the decrease in share prices of exploration companies.
Baird observed that exploration companies experienced a 60 per
cent decline in 2009, raising less than 3.0 billion s as against
the 7.0 billion dollars recorded each in 2007 and 2008.
He warned that such a development would make exploration
financing difficult in the future.
The 2010 PDAC, which holds from March 7 to March 10, showcases
new mining technologies as well as various mineral types and
grades from participating countries.
