CONSTITUTION FOR REVIEW
The
Nigerian Senate has constituted a thirty-seven member
Constitution Amendment Committee.
The Committee which is made up of a Senator from each state and
Abuja, has the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu as
Chairman.
The Committee will work with an equal number of members of the
House of Representatives to collate and articulate the views of
Nigerians for the purpose of amending the constitution.
The date of the inauguration of the Committee is yet to be
fixed.
Meanwhile, President Umaru Yar’Adua has submitted a budget
proposal of sixty-nine point four billion naira for the Federal
Capital Territory for 2008 to the National Assembly for
approval.
The President said emphasis on the budget would be
infrastructural development, while recurrent expenditure has
been de-emphasized.
