Nigeria’s
Chrisantus Sign For Hamburg
Nigeria’s under 17
highest goal scorer at the Last Under 17
world Cup, Macaulay Chrisantus has decided to sign for
the German club Hamburg.
The Nigeria youth international striker was the target
English clubs Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool.
Spanish giants Real Madrid, French side Lyon and Dutch
club Ajax Amsterdam were all linked with a move for
the youngster but he opted for the Bundesliga side.
The Deal
Chrisantus signed a contract with Hamburg's reserves,
before it is changed into a long-term professional
contract when he turns 18 next August.
His agent Adam Mohammed said that "after considering
all the offers we have for Chrisantus, Hamburg emerged
as the best place for him to develop into a world
class player for an undisclosed fee”.
Prospects
Chrisantus ten-month amateur contract means his family
will travel to Germany to live with him. He will be
able to play in the Bundesliga even before he turns
professional next year.
According to Mohammed, "His parents have been fully
involved in this deal and it offers him the
opportunity to develop from an amateur to a
professional. His parents and the remaining members of
the family will travel with him to Germany because he
is still a minor. “
There are other African players like Thimothee Atouba
(Cameroon) and Otto Addo (Ghana) who can help him
settle down at the club.
