Central Bank Of
Nigeria To Boost Public Confidence In Financial Industry
The
Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi,
says the apex bank would ensure public confidence in the
financial industry through appropriate disclosure and
reinvigoration of its zero tolerance policy on all
unprofessional and unethical conduct.
Dr. Sanusi gave the assurance at a seminar entitled “Trust
Policy Rendering: Reworking Nigeria’s Financial System in
the face of Global Financial Reform organised by the Financial
Institute Training Centre (FITC) in Lagos.
Sanusi said CBN had put in place a framework that would
facilitate operation of specialised banks.
He said the doubts expressed by investors on the true financial
status of some banks have led to the collapse of public
confidence in the banking system.
Sanusi, who said the restoration of trust in the financial
services sector was akin to restoring the economy’s circulatory
system, urged operators in the banking industry to be part of
the solutions.
