Ekiti State To Build
Mini Bio Fuel Refineries
The
government of Ekiti State, western Nigeria, says it is planning
to build sixteen mini bio-fuel refineries as part of efforts to
boost its revenue base.
The state Governor, Segun Oni said this in Ado-Ekiti on
Thursday, at a meeting with the executives of a Brazilian Green
Energy Company, Crownek, partnering with the state government.
He said that the refineries would be built by the company in
conjunction with the state government and that they would be
located in each of the sixteen Local Government Areas.
Oni said that the first refinery would be built at Iyemero in
Ikole Local Government Area with a capacity to produce one
thousand litres of Ethanol fuel per day.
The governor said that when the refineries commenced production,
government would distribute about eight thousand bio-fuel
powered stoves free to the residents.
He said that the project was aimed at reducing the dependence of
people on kerosene and fossil fuel for domestic cooking.
Oni assured the company that the government would support it
with the clearing of the project site to build the 16 mini
bio-fuel refineries, which would be converted to its equity
contribution.
The Chairman of the company, Captain Paul Thahal, commended the
governor for championing the green energy revolution in Nigeria.
Thahal said that the state and the country would benefit a lot
from the emerging bio-fuel market if concerted efforts were made
toward realising the enormous potentials that abound in the
country.
Demonstrating the bio-fuel powered stove, the Executive Director
of the Company, Mr. Niyi Alabi, said one litre of the ethanol
could last for four and half hours as against kerosene, which
last for one and half hours.
