Berti Vogts
Resigns

German
Berti Vogts has resigned his appointment as Chief
Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
His resignation may have been informed by the gale
of criticisms that trailed the abysmal performance
of the Nigerian national team at the 26th edition of
the Nations Cup in Ghana.
Vogts was quoted as saying, while announcing his
resignation that, “I have resigned from the job,
following a frustrating 12 months in charge of the
Super Eagles. Working with the players was a lot of
fun for me. It gave me back my joy on football.”
“Too much happened during and after the African Cup.
Most of all, I don’t have any faith in the President
of the Nigerian Federation anymore,” Vogts said.
61-year-old Vogts, whose biggest triumph was leading
Germany to the 1996 European Championship title, did
not elaborate on his differences with the Nigerian
Football Association president, Sani Lulu.
Media reports earlier said that Berti Vogts’
employer, the Nigerian Football Association, NFA,
had issued him a query on the poor performance of
the Super Eagles in Ghana.
There have been no comments, so far, from the NFA.
For Grab
A handful of former Nigerian players have signified
intention to take over coaching of the Super Eagles.
Top on the list are Stephen Keshi, Samson Siasia,
Daniel Amokachi and Sunday Oliseh.
Stephen Keshi is a former skipper of the Super
Eagles and National Coach of Togo. Sunday Oliseh was
a former Captain of the team as ex-international
star. Daniel Amokachi, aside from being a former
player of the Super Eagles, was appointed assistant
to Berti Vogts in 2007. He however, resigned his
appointment due to what he called irreconcilable
differences with the German technician.
