Nigeria Beats Honduras, Eaglets

The
Golden Eaglets of Nigeria has defeated Honduras by a lone goal in the 2009 FIFA
Under 17 World Cup competition, taking place in Nigeria.
The team’s victory, which was
the first by an African team in the competition, pushes Nigeria to a second
place in the Group A-Abuja.
Eaglet’s last group game against
Argentina will be played on Friday in Bauchi.
Already, the Golden Eaglets have
left Abuja for Bauchi to prepare for the match.
Battle ready
Speaking to newsmen shortly
after the game on Tuesday, coach of the Nigerian team, John Obuh promised to
overhaul his team ahead of the next match.
’’There will be no hiding place
for Argentina, we will ensure total victory on Friday,’’
coach Obuh said.
Honduras will play Germany in
Abuja in the other group A match. Coach Eugenio Umanzor who is still hopeful of
a second round game promised to defeat Germany by a wide margin to qualify as
one of the best losers.
’’ I will play the final group
game as the final of the competition and I am sure I will win and qualify,’’
he said.
In other results, Argentina
defeated Germany 2-1 while Brazil lost to Mexico 0-1 and
Switzerland out scored Japan 4-3.
