Nigeria Bags ECOWAS
Cultural Excellence Award
Gloria Essien, Abuja.
Three
Nigerian cultural events have won the Economic Community of West
African States, ECOWAS, award for excellence.
The festivals are the Abuja Carnival, the Argungu International
Fishing festival and the Calabar Carnival.
The festivals were awarded after having met the Africa
unification criteria of the ECOWAS commission.
Nigeria’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation,
Mr. Bello Jibrin Gada, said the award would spur the ministry to
organise better festivals subsequently.
He said the awards would provide the necessary leverage in
Nigeria’s quest to achieve excellence in all aspects of cultural
expression and manifestations.
The ECOWAS Award for Excellence was instituted in 1992.
