Assist Nigeria In Investment, Poverty Reduction
The
Islamic Development Bank is to host an investment conference in Nigeria to
showcase her investment opportunities to prospective investors across the globe.
Vice President of the bank in charge of operations, Mr. Birama Boubacar Sidibe
said in Abuja, when he paid a visit to President Umaru Yar’Adua, that the bank
had played a critical role in fostering development, promoting peace and
prosperity in many nations and it was now the turn of Nigeria to benefit.
Mr. Sidibe said participants, mostly from the Gulf States, whose major areas of
investment interest included agriculture, infrastructure and social housing
would be in attendance at the proposed conference in Nigeria.
President Yar’Adua has welcomed the idea of the proposed international
conference on investment. He gave an assurance that investors would find
enthusiastic and firm business partners in Nigeria.
The President commended the Kaduna state government for signing a funding
agreement for science secondary education development with the bank and
encouraged other states to take advantage of such opportunities.
In a related development, the Nigerian government is collaborating with the
African Development Bank, ADB to enhance its poverty reduction programme.
Minister of Finance, Dr. Mansur Mukhtar said, at a workshop organised in
collaboration with the ADB, that government was committed to strengthening its
relationship with the ADB, acknowledging the bank's collaboration in poverty
reduction.
He urged stakeholders to identify the best practices in project management and
create a national network that could facilitate the flow of information and
experiences.
