Army Partner With
Police on Security
The
Nigerian Army has assured the Nigeria Police of its cooperation
in providing security and maintaining peace in Lagos State,
South West Nigeria.
Commandant, 9th Mechanised Brigade, Ikeja, Brigadier-General
Sanusi Muazu, made the promise when he visited the Lagos Police
Commissioner, Mr Marvel Akpoyibo at the Police Headquarters,
Ikeja, the State Capital.
Muazu noted that the existing military and police joint patrol
in Lagos was a sign of good relationship, stressing that the
joint patrol would be sustained.
He said the purpose was to promote cordial civil and military
relationship, and that the Army believes that such relationship
should start with a sister security agency like the police.
The Commandant, however, noted that the problem between the army
and the police was always caused by the rank and file, assuring
that such would now be things of the past.
Responding, Akpoyibo said there was no way the police could
provide adequate security without assistance from sister
agencies like the army.
He disclosed that the police had been re-orientated on how to
cooperate with sister agencies to avoid conflict, stressing that
any police officer who caused a conflict would be dealt with.
