NIGERIA TO
FIND NEW WAYS TO CURB ANIMAL DISEASES
Nigeria
has commenced the collection of data on animal diseases in the
country.
To ensure the success of this exercise, two forms have been
designed. They are the Monthly Disease Outbreak in Abattoir form
and the World Animal Health Immediate Notification form.
Announcing this at a workshop for Veterinary Officers in Minna,
the Niger State Capital in North Central Nigeria, the Director
of Livestock and Pest Control Services, Dr. Junaidu Maina said
the scheme will expose participants to the rudiments of
reporting animal diseases in the country.
He said the need for timely and accurate information on animal
diseases for planning and decision making was the primary reason
for setting up the scheme.
The Head of Epidemiologists, Dr. Gashash Ahmed told the
gathering that all the Veterinary Officers from across seven
hundred and seventy-four local government areas in the country
will be trained on disease reporting to ensure the success of
the programme.
While presenting the chart on the disease reporting rate for the
last three years, an Assistant Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr.
Olaniran Alabi said efforts should be geared towards putting
animal diseases reporting on the right track.
