Anambra State To Set
Up Fertilizer Plant
Nkechi Gabriel, Enugu
To
boost agricultural production and guarantee food self
sufficiency, the Anambra state government in south Eastern
Nigeria is to construct an ultra modern fertilizer industry.
The foundation laying for the fertilizer plant in Amawbia, near
the state capital, was performed by the Governor, Mr. Peter Obi.
The industry, a collaborative effort between the state and the
National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT),
is a first of its kind in the south east region, with the
potential to transform agriculture production in the state and
beyond.
More support
Governor Obi said that, as part of the commitment to
agriculture, some farmers would soon benefit from a one Billion
Naira loan, designed to support each one of them to boost their
subsistence farming activities.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr.
Chima Okafor said that the industry would be completed this
year,
as all the equipment for the construction of the industry had
been procured.
He said that the project would make fertilizer readily available
to the people of the state and beyond in due course.
Anambra state is among six states in Nigeria partnering with the
National Research Institute for Chemical Technology to
manufacture fertilizers.
