Partners To Revive Ailing Firms

The
Enugu state government in Eastern Nigeria says it will partner
with the private sectors to revive ailing industries.
The commissioner of Finance Mrs. Vivienne Eze stated this on
Thursday, in Enugu while presenting the 2010 budget breakdown.
Mrs. Eze said some of the industries: Sunrise Flour Mill, Niger
Gas and Hotel Presidential would be privatised to foreign
partners for sustainability.
On loans, Eze said government secured long term loans of 35-year
repayment at a low interest of two and half percent and 10-year
moratorium
She said about N5.5 billion out of the N7 billion
owed has been repaid in 2009.
Eze also said government has set up a committee of the state
executives and hired a consultant to monitor the state’s
internally generated revenues.
On Education, the commissioner said that government was
considering a bailout of N435 million to Enugu State
University of Science and Technology (ESUT) for the payment of
six months arrears of owed salaries.
She also said that the state government was upgrading 34
public schools, two schools in each of the 17 local
government areas, to accommodate boarding students.
VON reports that Enugu state government budgeted N68
billion for Year for 2010, with recurrent expenditure of N30
billion and capital outflows of N38 billion.
