EU Aids Ivory Coast
IT Development
Ivory
Coast has received 25 million Euros from the European
Union for the development of information technology.
A statement said the donor countries include Japan, Norway and
Germany.
Ivory Coast’s Minister of Technical Teaching and Professional
Training Mousa Dosso unveiled the aid programme on Wednesday.
The World Bank has also offered support for the programme for
activities in education and training.
’’The evolution of the new information and communication
methods has drastically changed the working methods, habits and
performance in the world,’’ the minister said.
Backbone of rebuilding
’’Our ministry is to come up with a strategy for the IT
popularisation in our administrative and teaching systems. Peace
must come back to the country so that the national centre for
promoting the new technologies can play its role after the
crisis.’’ The minister said.
Cote d'lvoire is yet to cater to IT equipment, especially in the
areas of police service and provincial administration, where
officers are still working with the old-style typewriters.
The government has created the National Information Development
Agency and a training centre for the IT orientation in
anticipation of a post-crisis era of development.
The country is preparing for its first presidential elections
between February and early March since 2005 to end the political
crisis, which was triggered by an attempted coup in 2002.
