Anti-Corruption Protocol
Member
states in the East African region are drafting an Anti-
corruption protocol as a tool to fight the vice and prevent its
further adverse impact on the region’s economic development.
Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania have expressed
concerns at the rate at which corruption is spreading in the
countries and resolved to collectively draft the anti corruption
protocol.
The East African Community Inspector General of Governments,
Rafael Baku said the protocol, as a United Nations Convention
Against Corruption (UNCAC) which has to be endorsed by all UN
member states.
It is geared at implementing a wide and detailed range of
anti-corruption measures, laws and regulations aimed at
promoting the prevention, detection and sanctioning of
corruption. It provides for cooperation among partner states in
the global efforts at curbing the vice.
