Elder Statesmen Adesanya Dies At 85

Nigeria on Sunday lost another old-guard democracy activist in Afenifere leader, Abraham Adesanya, who died at the age of 85 after a close shave with illness for two years.

Adesanya passed on at about 12.20pm on Sunday at his 15 Duala Street, Apapa, Lagos residence. He was 85.
His body has been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), from where Governor Babatunde Fashola said it would be taken and given a state burial.

Fashola spoke amid a dirge echoed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel; other members of Afenifere; as well as former Ogun State Governor, Segun Osoba; and former Secretary to the Federal Government, Olu Falae, now Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA) Chairman. Former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, also sent in his condolences, as did Femi Falana, West African Bar Association (WABA) President.

The solace, however, is that Adesanya lived a worthy life, and died in old age.
