UNICEF calls for media partnership
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has called for partnership with the media in the coverage of its activities concerning children and their right to survival and development.
The Communications Officer of the UNICEF, Bauchi Office in North central Nigeria, Mr Samuel Kalu, made the call in Kano on Friday at the opening ceremony of a two-day media training organised by UNICEF.
Kalu said that the partnership would fulfil UNICEF's mandate of exploiting the position of the media as a “first hand source of information'' due to its strength in agenda setting.
He urged the media to put in their best and work with development partners to assist disadvantaged children and other vulnerable people in the society through elimination of exclusion.
Kalu also called for media support in advocating the reduction in gender disparities and ensure a follow up and implementation of government's policies concerning such issues.
