President Yar’Adua Encourages Eaglets On World Cup

The
Nigerian President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has asked the
Golden Eaglets to strive for the U-17 World Youth
Championship Cup for Nigeria to receive the trophy
again.
Speaking in Abuja, at a presentation of the World
Cup trophy to usher in Nigeria’s hosting of the
championship kicking off on Saturday, President
Yar’Adua said if Nigeria failed to win, then the
tournament must be worn by an African nation.
Assurances
The Nigerian President assured
the contingents, drawn from twenty four countries
for fifty-two matches, that they would be adequately
catered. He said Nigeria would ensure a hitch-free
tournament and make the games one of the best in
history.
Early Arrivals
Five days to its kick-off, a
number of teams have arrived in Nigeria for the U-17
football competition. These are football squads from
Gambia, Holland Japan, Switzerland and Honduras
while the others are being awaited.
Host Nigeria will play the opening match with
Germany at the Abuja International Stadium.
