UN Restricts Staff Movement In Afghanistan
The
U.N. has given an order for its staff in Afghanistan
to restrict their movement, a day after Taliban
militants stormed a guest house in Kabul and killed
at least eight people.
An internal U.N. memo ordered restrictions on
movement for the rest of the week and said U.N.
departments would be reviewing lists of critical and
non essential personnel, suggesting some people may
be moved out of the country for their own safety.
U.N. spokesman, Aleem Siddique said at least nine
U.N. staff who survived the two-hour assault on the
Bakhtar guest house will be evacuated to Dubai in
the United Arab Emirates.
Siddique, however, said their work would continue
and that preparations for coming elections were
already at advanced stage.
He said the impact of the attack would be evaluated
over the coming days and that it was too early to
make any judgments.
