Minister Meet
Stakeholders On Media Broadcast Rights
The
Nigerian Information and Communications Minister
Professor Dora Akunyili will on Thursday meet with
stakeholders on the Under-17 World Cup broadcast
rights, to ensure a hitch-free coverage.
The competition, tagged “Nigeria 2009”, is scheduled
for October twenty four to November fifteen. FIFA
has granted the host broadcast rights to Daar
Communications, operators of AIT and Ray power FM.
The meeting is the second in a week brokered by the
Minister after the first failed to reach a
consensus.
Top management of AIT, the Nigerian Television
Authority (NTA) as well as the National Broadcasting
Commission (NBC) and some of the Director-Generals
of the parastatal agencies under the information
ministry are expected to attend the meeting.
Matters Arising
The acting Managing Director of Daar Communications,
Mr. Tony Akiotu, who was at the first meeting said
that the meeting also discussed the issue of
infringement of AIT broadcast rights by another
television network during the last 2010 World Cup
qualifier between Nigeria and Tunisia in Abuja.
