NFF President faults quest for foreign coach
The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Aminu Maigari has faulted the quest for a foreign coach.
He told news men in Bauchi, northern Nigeria, that the timing for the quest for a foreign coach was inappropriate.
"At this crucial time, where we are facing quite a number of competitions, we feel it’s too close for us to bring somebody who does not know our football culture; doesn’t have our football history; does not have our African football background and by extension, the Nigerian football background. So I feel not for now," he said.
Maigari also said Nigeria was blessed with talented coaches who could move the football sector forward. In his words "Secondly, we are blessed with talents in this country. I still believe in our indigenous coaches. So, let’s give them the chance; If they fail, which I don’t hope for, then we can go for a foreign coach."
"We have now on our own discovered there are a lot of lapses on the technical aspect of it. The coaches don’t go out to fish or scout for players who deserve to be in the team," Maigari noted.
Discipline and Patriotism
The NFF President also lamented the spate of indiscipline and lack of patriotism among players of the senior National Football team, the Super Eagles.
He said the football federation was working to ensure that players on every team upheld strict disciplinary measures to move the football sector forward.
