Government Subsidises Seedlings To Boost Agriculture
The
cost of improved seedlings is to be subsidised by fifty per cent as part of
government’s commitment to the development of the agricultural industry.
Chairman of the National Agricultural Seed Council, Dr James Angbazo said the
measure was part of government’s policy on food security, which could be
realised through growing seeds of improved varieties and providing them to end
users.
He was speaking at Sheda, a township of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,
during a Field Day Demonstration of Hybrid Pollinated Maize.
Angbazo said the council aimed at promoting seed production and security as well
as improved seeds knowledge by farmers, so that the efforts at ensuring food
security would yield the desired results.
The subsidy was introduced by government in realisation of the importance of
quality seeds in crop production.
