Nigeria Honours Samuel Peters,
WBC Champion
Interim
World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Samuel Peters
has bagged a National honour and a promotion in
the Nigeria Police.
The Nigerian government honoured
Peters with the national Order of The Niger, OON,
and promoted him to the rank of a Deputy
Superintendent of Police, in the Nigeria Police
Force.
Samuel Peters, popularly
referred to as “The Nigerian Nightmare” on the
ring, was received at the State House by
President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, accompanied by
his promoter, Don King.
Appreciation
President Yar Adua expressed the
appreciation of the people of Nigeria to Samuel
Peters for making Nigeria Proud. He pledged
government’s assistance to him during his up
coming fight slated for Nigeria.
Two state governors, Cross Rivers
and Akwa Ibom, in the Southern part of Nigeria,
have also organised a grand reception for him as
a mark of honour.
At the international airports in
Lagos and Abuja, the overwhelming crowd that
welcomed him expressed appreciation for his
laurel.
Acknowledging the crowd, Peters
said “I thank all Nigerians who prayed for me
and everybody who supported me in clinching the
title.”
Accolades
Don King, the famous boxing
promoter praised the resilience of Sam Peters on
the ring. He said, “Winning the title was a good
thing for Nigeria.”
He expressed the belief that
Peters had the ability to retain his title.
