Inclusion Of Rugby In Africa Games Hailed
The inclusion of Rugby as a medal-winning event in
the forthcoming 10th All Africa Games to be staged
in Zambia has been hailed.
Mr. Ntiense Williams, National Head Coach and
Technical Coordinator, Nigeria Rugby Football
Federation, said in Lagos that the move will boost
the growth and development of the games in Nigeria.
He said that its inclusion in the continental Games
would help popularise the sport.
“With the sport to also feature as premier event at
the 2014 Commonwealth Games which Nigeria is bidding
to host, the future is certainly bright for the
development of rugby in the Country,”
Mr. Ntiense said.
Rugby has also been listed as a scoring event at the
2008 National Sports Festival to be hosted by Kaduna
State, Northern Nigeria.
According to Ntiense, “IRB and the African Rugby
Confederation have seen great potential in Nigeria
and they are eager to assist in the development of
the game by providing equipment and training.”
He noted that, at the 2003 World Rugby edition, the
International Rugby Board admitted Nigeria as the
93rd member.
