Nigeria
has confirmed its first case of death from the avian influenza
H1N1.
In a statement, the ministry of health in Abuja said a thirty
eight year old female victim, who had travelled to the US three
months ago and became sick six weeks after had tested positive
to the influenza and later died.
She died on the fifth of January.
The statement said there has been eleven laboratory confirmed
cases of influenza in Nigeria, eight of them, those the lady had
had close contacts with.
The government has therefore enhanced surveillance and active
search in some health facilities in all the states, including
the Federal Capital Territory.
It said all documentations for the donation of Pandemic
Influenza A/H1N1 vaccine, including vaccine deployment plans and
processes have been completed and forwarded to WHO Headquarters
