Tella, Nigeria’s Coach Still On
Intensive Care
Professor Yemi Tella, the ailing
coach of Nigeria's U-17 World Cup Golden Eaglets, is
still aided by a respirator, according to a
dependable hospital source.
Tella has been in the Intensive Care
Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH),
for the past one week.
The source told the News Agency of
Nigeria that the hospital authorities have barred
visitors from seeing Tella.
“No visitors for him,”
said the source.
In August, Tella, 57, was treated for
prostrate cancer in a hospital in Republic of Korea
where the Eaglets were runners-up on an eight-nation
U-17 Football championship.
He later led the squad to win the
FIFA U-17 World Cup on September 9 in Korea,
apparently after a reprieve from his ailment.
Tella, currently on contract with the
NFA as chief coach of the Golden Eaglets, also heads
the Coaching Department at the National Institute
for Sports in Lagos.
