Inaugural Meeting on Polio Eradication Held
The
inaugural meeting of the committee to work on
eradicating Polio has begun in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the
World Health organization and the US Centers for
Disease Control in Nigeria.
Dr Muktar Muhammed, of the Centers for Disease
control in Nigeria, Ms Carmen Villar, Deputy
Director of the US Centers for Disease Control
Office in Nigeria are members of the committee.
Last week, at the instance of the Ministry of
Health, traditional rulers from northern Nigeria
converged on Kaduna state, for a meeting to fashion
out how to eradicate the wild poliovirus, which is
still being reported in the country.
At that forum, a task force team was set up
comprising selected traditional rulers in the north,
and their main task was to set modalities for
partnership between the Ministry of Health and other
development partners towards eradicating the
disease.
