We'll Produce A People's Constitution,
Mark
The
Nigerian Senate President, David Mark has pledged that when the
National Assembly completes its planned amendment to the 1999
Constitution, all issues hindering Nigeria's development will be
addressed.
Mark promised that the new Constitution would
reflect the wishes and aspirations of the citizens.
He said the legislature would include the input
of Nigerians into the national document to ensure that all grey
areas were addressed and mistakes of the past not repeated.
The Senate President spoke in Abuja, the nation’s
capital when members of the Electoral Reform Committee, led by
Justice Muhammadu Uwais, visited him.
Also, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu,
has asked governors of states in the Niger Delta aggrieved over
N220 billion owed the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)
by the Federal Government to seek redress in court.
According to him, the best way out of the
long-drawn problem is the governors seeking a judicial
interpretation on whether they should be paid the money or not.
Mark had also reiterated that the Constitution
review exercise being embarked upon by the National Assembly
would incorporate suggestions from the Uwais panel and other
interest groups.
