Nigeria, WHO Collaborate Against Malaria

Nigeria
and the World Bank have concluded agreements for the
disbursement of about two hundred million Dollars
for malaria control.
At the signing ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of
Finance, Dr. Mansur Mukhtar enjoined benefitting
states to ensure that the World Bank credit is
deployed for its objectives.
The credit would fund malaria treatment and control
in seven states. These are: Akwa Ibom, Anambra,
Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano and Rivers states.
Similar measures against the malaria scourge are
ongoing in Ebonyi state South Eastern Nigeria.
The World Health Organisation and the Ebonyi state
government are collaborating in a new initiative on
malaria prevention among school children.
VON correspondent reports that over three thousand
insecticides treated mosquito nets have been
distributed to twenty-seven pilot secondary schools
in the state. The materials were handed over to
education authorities during a meeting with
secondary schools’ principals.
