We must make sacrifices to transform Nigeria —Nigerian Govt.

The Nigerian Government has asked leaders at various levels of governance in the country to be ready to make sacrifices as the country goes through national transformation process.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, made this call in Abuja, the nation’s capital, while declaring open the meeting of the National Council on African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) for validation of the second progress report on the implementation of the National Programme of Action (NPoA).

Speaking against the backdrop of the refusal of some state governments to domesticate the relevant standards and codes for good governance as enunciated by APRM, a flagship of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), the SGF stressed the need for urgent change of attitude towards nation building.

Objective of NEPAD

Senator Anyim said the ultimate objective of NEPAD was to eradicate poverty and place member states of the African Union, individually and collectively, on the path of sustainable growth and development.

Anyim said both transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and the NEPAD objectives were anchored on “good governance.”

According to him, this was why the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the National Council of State had endorsed the NEPAD-APRM documents for implementation by the three levels of government.
