UNDP challenges Nigerian media on reconciliation Qasim Akinreti, Abuja
The Nigerian media has been challenged to embark on a process of political reconciliation following the isolated cases of violence that greeted the outcome of the April 26th presidential election.
Addressing the media owners and editors at the second round of dialogue between the media owners and editors at the UN HOUSE in Abuja Nigeria’s capital, Mr Emmanuel Akwetey, Consultant Directing the Democratic Governance for Development project of the UNDP said the time for building a virile Nation is now.
He said if the Ghanaian media could achieve reconciliation within a short time for the country to move forward and be counted as one of the best example of democratic countries, Nigeria media had a compelling task to achieve the same feat.
According to him, Nigeria holds a prime position in Africa and the success of the April 16 presidential election has shown that the country has the capacity to get it right at a time least expected.
