Qasim Akinreti, Lagos
Nigerians have extolled the selfless service and humility of the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua, who died on May 5 2010.
President Goodluck Jonathan described Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua, as “one of the nation’s greatest leaders and a visionary statesman, whose commitment to the enthronement of the ideals of patriotism and good governance, as well as the sustenance of growth and progress remain indelible.”
President Jonathan, who equally marked his one year in office, thanked Nigerians for their immense contributions to the stability and progress of the nation in the past one year.
The President said that as he looked forward to his inauguration for a fresh term of office on May 29, 2011, a new chapter of renewal and transformation had been opened in Nigeria’s national life with the peaceful, free and fair conduct of the 2011 general elections.
Other Nigerians were of the opinion that the late president laid the foundation for a credible election by setting up the Muhammadu Uwais panel to looked into the 2007 flawed elections.
