Tribunal orders INEC to release electoral materials to CPC

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Wednesday ordered Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to release electoral materials used in the Presidential election of April 16, 2011 to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to enable the political party prove its allegations of electoral fraud against INEC and the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

This ruling followed a request made by the lead counsels of all parties involved in the suit who rose from a prolonged meeting where they agreed that INEC should make the electoral materials used for the election available to the CPC for analysis and examination.
It could be recalled that the tribunal on Monday, asked all parties to harmonize their applications in order to fast track the suit so as to meet the deadline stipulated in the Electoral ACT of 2010 for the conclusion of electoral petitions.
INEC boss, professor Attahiru Jega had earlier, expressed the willingness of the commission to cooperate with any political party that is contending the results of the April elections.
