Sultan of Sokoto calls for dialogue with Boko Haram

The Sultan of Sokoto, Dr Sa’ad Abubakar, has thrown his support behind President Goodluck Jonathan on the dialogue option to tackle the problem of Boko Haram.

The Sultan made the statement in Kano to commiserate with the government and the people of the state on the recent bomb attack which claimed hundreds of people.

Regarding by some Muslims in the country as its main spiritual leader, Dr Sa’ad Abubakar said if Muslims and Christians were to live by the teachings of their respective religions there would have been no problem in the country.

However, Dr Sa’ad Abubakar noted that the misunderstanding of religion is the cause of most of these crises in the country.

Dr Sa’ad Abubakar who was by of Emir of Kano ,(Dr) Alh Ado Bayero to the Government house says dialogue would pave way for a lasting solution to this problem.

He called on the religious community leaders to impress on their followers  the importance and the need for a peaceful coexistence for development of the country.

The Sultan emphasize that peace is the Bedrock for any meaningful development in any country.

In his response, the Kano state governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso also expressed his support for the President to engage the Boko Haram in a dialogue.

He commended the Kano Emirate Council for its role over the bombing incidence, urging them not to relent in this positive development.

Dr Kwankwaso added that it was through the guidance of Kano Emirate Council that the state government commenced the support programme for the victims.

Meanwhile, Kwankwaso has called on the people of Kano to continue to support and cooperate with the security agencies in the maintenance of peace and law and order in the state.

Gov Kwankwaso made the appeal in a special Broadcast to the people of Kano state.

The Governor says the state government will continue to take steps to ensure adequate security of lives and properties of the citizenry in the state.

He also draw the attention of security agents to the need to reduce as much as possible, the harassment of people in the performance of their functions.

In a related development, the Minister of Health Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu has expressed satisfaction with the level of medical attention accorded to victims of the Kano bomb blast in Kano. 

The Health minister made the statement while in Kano to see for himself how victims of the Kano bomb blast were faring in Government Hospitals as well as to condole the government and people of Kano state over the unfortunate incident of the bomb attack.
 
Professor Onyebuchi commended the management of the National Orthopedic Hospital, Dala and Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for the prompt response to the government directive to treat victims free of charge.
 
He says at the moment there are about 30 patients at the Dala Orthopedic hospital, adding that the cases of the victims were not beyond the capability of Nigerian Doctors.

Professor Onyebuchiu added that if any case is identified to be beyond local treatment, government will not hesitate to refer such case abroad for treatment.
 
 The minister also paid a courtesy call on Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero and commiserated with them over the unfortunate incident and prayed for the reposed of the soul of the deceased and the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
 
He prayed to God to prevent a reoccurrence of the incident.
