Nigeria's Seventh National Assembly to be inaugurated on Monday

The Seventh National Assembly will be inaugurated in Abuja on Monday next week.

Already arrangements have reached advanced stage for the inauguration of the 109 360 members of the House of Representatives.

Battle for leadership

Shortly after the inauguration, election of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives will commence at the various chambers in the National Assembly.

In the Senate, campaigns have been intensified to elect the President, David Mark and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu for the Seventh Senate.

Horse Trading

Addressing  Journalists at the National Assembly, the Co-coordinators of Senator Mark Campaign group for the Six Geo-political zones of the country said that Ninety One senators and senators-elect had endorsed the candidature of Senator Mark, and Ekweremadu, for the Presidency and Deputy Presidency of the Senate respectively.

Spokesman of the group, Senator Smart Adeyemi, from Kogi State, North Central Nigeria, said Senators Mark  and Ike Ekweremadu were the only candidates standing for election on Monday for the Presidency and Deputy Presidency of the Senate.

Both Mark and Ekweremadu had been the Senate President and Deputy President in the just concluded Sixth National Assembly.
