Science Research Fund to be established

The Nigerian government has approved the setting up of Science Research Development Fund for the promotion and development of science Research in the country.
Addressing State House Correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council Meeting in the State House Abuja, the Minister of Information Mr.Labaran Maku said that the President has directed that the Minister of Science and Technology and the Minister of Finance should collaborate to ensure that the fund is provided for.
He stated that the research fund would be centralized but would be made available to all the research institutes and organization interested in scientific research in Nigeria .
He said that government by approving this fund has taken a major step to propel the development of the country especially in realization of it's transformation agenda and that of the country’s vision 202020.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has constituted a Technical Implementation Committee for the smooth operation of Mass Transit Scheme across the 36 States of the federation including Abuja.
Governor Peter Obi of Anambra, after a special meeting on Mass Transit Scheme, in Abuja which was presided over by Vice President Namadi at the Presidential Villa, Abuja said, the committee has been saddled with the task of ensuring the evolution of a workable mass transit system for each state of the federation.
“Following the issue of subsidy, it became necessary for a committee chaired by the Vice President to look into mass transit deployment in the various states especially the major cities like Abuja, Lagos and all the capitals and how to fund such mass transit”, he said
The governor also disclosed that the meeting of the Natural Resources Funds, which was also presided over by the vice president, resolved to invest heavily in agriculture to boost food production in the country.
